..FOR ONE REASON.. LUCRETIA |
|
|
|
It's the sort of music that will stir all sorts of emotions within you; anger sadness, thought, as well as having an unrelenting energy that's there the whole way through. It poses a lot of questions to the listener, it's not about bullshit though, the lyrics and music are all stuff that came from our head and hence I think the best word to use would be 'Lucretia' Vocalist, Dave Pieper.

| "Musically we' trying to bring something
heavy back into the scene, but at the same time, not the type of heavy
everyone's heard before", says Dave. Formed over three years ago in
the Penrith area, and originally a covers band, the members of Lucretia have
been writing and performing their own material for over two years.
Lucretia's music is now about attitude, and this five piece outfit
believe they have the potential for success, "We've still got alot
of years ahead of us, that's for sure, just taking it one step at a time
at first and hopefully we'll get there eventually". It seems the
pace may pick up in the next couple of months with the release of their
new E.P 'For one Reason', "We spent over a year working on the E.P,
alot of bands like to just get in there and get it over and done with,
we probably would have done this as well, if we weren't all so poor.
[laughs] Instead we went in every month for a few months and recorded
a song and worked on it for the whole day". 'For One Reason' was
recorded at Noisegate Studios in Castle Hill, "At first the
recording process was and experience was all new and it was a bit like
being a kid in a toy store. You can't believe it's your own stuff but
once you get over that it's just business." There's no consistent
feel throughout the E.P, songs such as 'Rhythm Keeper' hold a heavy Punk
influence while songs like the tittle track 'For One Reason', boarder on
the heavy rock/metal genres. 'BioEthics starts of slow, then hits you
with powerful guitar riffage and thumping drums before subsiding only to
beat you unexpectedly again and again. Outsanity opens the E.P setting a
very high energy mood for the release. Daves vocals excel at their
extremes. With the release of 'For One Reason', out of the way, the guys
now hope to focus more on the live aspect, starting with the Launch of
the E.P at the Backdoor on the 31st of August. A new Bass player has
also been added to their lineup, allowing Dave to move off of the bass
guitar and
focus more on his vocals. "We've Known Daz for quite some time now,
he's rocked up to our gigs and was one of our alleged fan base, turned
out he happened to be quite a good bassist", Dave says, "With
myself doing both vocals and bass, it didn't give me a chance to focus
on one or the other so we all decided to give Daz an Audition, just
bring him in a see how he went, two jams later we had a new song in the
bank with heavy contributions on his part. So now he's in and we're
sounding even better." The bands influences are pretty broad with
Shane on drums bringing to the band a punk influence as he likes to
listen to bands such as 'Jimmy Eat World', Pete on Rhythm guitar is a
huge 'Smashing Pumkins' fan, Luke over on lead guitar bring influences
from bands like Ill Nino, Korn,
Fear Factory while Dave has his roots in Industrial. All
together making for a potentially potent mix. Their History of Gigs over
the past few years ranges from backyard parties to skate festivals
"Probably the best gig was the last one at the channel cafe in
Penrith" Dave says, "It took a while but our small fan base
started beating the shite out of each other during the songs and the
atmosphere was great, we got ourselves a broader audience that
day." And it shows, with Lucretia having continued success in the
online music charts at Mp3.com.au,
with each individual track at some time or another reaching the top 10 and some even hit the number #1
spot, they currently enjoy sitting as the 7th most downloaded band in
the 'heavy rock' category. Their next gig is
at the Backdoor @ Penrith Panthers Leagues Club on the 31st of August
playing along side 'Heifer', 'New Horizon' and 'From the Sideline'.
Tickets are $8 + booking fee through the venue, book on 4720 5555, This gig is
an all age gig and Doors open 3pm. If Lucretia perform live as well as
they record, you'll be in for one hell of a good afternoon. Contact Lucretia on the E-mail: lucretia_tk@hotmail.com or visit their website at http://go.to/lucretia
