C.D  REVIEWS

previous edition reviews

Tourettes second e.p release ‘Detestimony’ delivers all to be expected from this Sydney metal band that continues to push the boundaries of ‘Metal’, Mitchelle Maddens vocals once again are a stand out on the album, with an alternating sounds from sweet whispers, to screeching ‘Nazgul’ type cries, over to rough edge roars which all go toward capturing the listeners extended attention. Ashley Manning brings variety into his playing with the  guitar parts on most songs having their own unique flavor. I feel the Rhythm section has stepped up a notch with Quigs on drums challenging the heart to beat at triple pace. The electronics on the album are blended well and placed appropriately. All up Detestimony comes across dark, heavy and dirty, just the way a metal album should.

THE CASANOVAS (MELBOURNE)

SHAKE IT (single)

Yee haa, it all about rock and roll from these boys, The Casanovas are a band that that produce upbeat tunes accompanied by extended Solos and screaming vocals, Think 'Poison', think cock rock, Think late eighties, think The Casanovas, Their latest single 'Shake It" brings all these elements into the next Millennium, is well recorded and is guaranteed to have you shaking it

available at all major record stores, Shake it is out through Rubber Records

ZETLAND (SYDNEY)

SELF TITLED DEMO

Four tracks in all on this demo from Newtown's mellow alt rock band 'Zetland'. Ranging from upbeat rock tracks that have the feet uncontrollable tapping away, to the heart wrenching acoustically orientated 'lose yourself with me', the four guys from this band are definitely on the right track

This is a great pop/rock demo, Pick it up from one of their gigs.

Follow our band links page to their website, where they have some Mp3 tracks available for listening to

THE DRUGS (MELBOURNE)

MUSIC'S IN TROUBLE

This album can be highly annoying yet is well thought out. Reaching it's peak with well crafted political and social comment weaved throughout with good humor. It stops there however as the music on the album itself, is mostly no more than crappy throw away pop. (I'm figuring that was the bands ultimate statement) There are some funny moments on this C.D but your money could be better spend. (perhaps on a earlier release from the same band) Distributed through Rubber Records and Shock.

FINGERPRINT RESISTANT (BLAXLAND)

SELF TITLED DEMO

Although the guys from Fingerprint Resistant call this a demo, it could well pass for a debut album with nine tracks in all. A blend of heavy rock with what sounds like indie influences, hollowed vocals and some damn fine guitar playing throughout the album makes this, music that can be appreciated. Go have a listen for yourself by following our mp3 links.

The full C.D is available for purchase through their website or pick one up when you see em' live.

THE MESS HALL    (SYDNEY)

FEELING SIDEWAYS (E.P)

The Mess Hall are an outstanding band to catch live and  'Feeling sideways' tries to capture that with gripping rock songs such 'Lock and load" through to the bluesy rock feel of track 6 'Feel like a dog', Feeling sideways get my tick of approval. Co-produced by Chris Joannou (Silverchair) and engineered by Matt Lovell ( Tom Morgan, George, Silverchair, Something For Kate) The production of this E.P is of the highest quality. I don't think 'Feeling Sideways' comes close to capturing what the Mess Hall are about live, but it still rocks.

distributed by Shock Records.

GLISTER    (BLUE MOUNTAINS)

QUEENSLAND (single)

The title track 'Queensland' is a catchy and melodic pop song, catchy riffs with low level hints of rock going on in there. I can't help but feel 'Queensland'  was recorded for radio friendly play, which is O.K I guess. Definitely some talent in this band, have a listen for your self on mp3.com.au (follow our mp3 links if you will)

available from Re-pressed records, Redeye, and waterfront records. visit http://www.glister.com.au  to find out more about this band.

THE LUST PUPPETS (SYDNEY)

SILENCE THIN (single)

"from the harsh words you once spoke, your darkness came and I awoke" Lead singer Janenne reaches somewhere deep inside you with her ripping vocals, leaving you lusting for more, backed by a tight rocking four piece, This is  'The Lust Puppets'. To sum it up, if you love your rock, 'Silence Thin' is a must have single, available free from Mp3.com.au, check out other tracks on Mp3.com.au from this band such as 'Dread', 'Mortar and Stone' and 'D.......ah fuck listen to them all, they're all good.
